In 2024, the number of citizens using the railway services continued to increase

In 2024, the number of citizens and guests of Armenia using the passenger services of the “South Caucasus Railway” CJSC continued to increase. Compared to 2023, the passenger traffic grew by 4.6%, which was about 563 thousand passengers. The company notes an increase in number of passengers since 2021.

In the reporting year, about 521 thousand people used the services of commuter trains. The largest increase in commuter traffic was achieved through the Yerevan-Gyumri-Yerevan and Yerevan-Yeraskh-Yerevan routes. Also in 2025, on behalf of third-party organizations “SCR” CJSC carried out six tourist charter flights, which transported about 1.5 thousand passengers.

In international traffic on the Yerevan-Tbilisi-Yerevan and Yerevan-Batumi-Yerevan routes, about 42.5 thousand passengers were transported. The reduction in passengers in international traffic by 14.5 thousand passengers is due to several reasons. Mainly, it was due to almost a month-long downtime in May-June as a result of the destruction of railway infrastructure by flooding in northern Armenia and the reduction in tourist flow between Yerevan and Tbilisi.

“We note with satisfaction the stable growth in passenger transportation, which is an indicator of increasing citizens’ confidence in railway transport,” notes Head of the Passenger Transportation Directorate Grant Mikaelyan. "This is facilitated by the improvement of the services we provide. Last year, we improved the program for purchasing electronic tickets for commuter electric trains, significantly expanding the functionality of the system. This year, together with our Georgian colleagues, we plan to update the program for purchasing tickets online for international trains."
