Armenian and Georgian railway workers agree on joint plans for 2025
The «South Caucasus Railway» CJSC and the «Georgian Railway» JSC summed up the results of cooperation for 2024 and outlined plans for the next year, 2025. The corresponding meeting with the participation of delegations and the heads of the two companies, Aleksey Melnikov and David Peradze, took place on December 16 in Tbilisi.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a wide range of bilateral issues. In particular, the issues of participation of «Georgian Railway» representatives in the restoration of the «South Caucasus Railway» caused by the flooding of the Debet river in May 2024 were discussed. The Georgian side increased the rolling stock - 30 railroad cars and diesel locomotives, and «Georgian Railway» employees were sent to Armenia to participate in eliminating the consequences of the flood.
The General Director of the «South Caucasus Railway» awarded his Georgian colleague David Peradze with the badge «Cooperation, interaction with the South Caucasus Railway». In addition, for «the demonstrated high level of professionalism, unprecedented assistance, for the coordinated joint work to eliminate the consequences of the flood, 11 drivers and driver’s assistant of the «Georgian Railway» were awarded the badge «For mutual assistance to South Caucasus Railway».
«SCR» emphasizes the significance and importance of the assistance provided by the railway workers of Georgia and expresses deep gratitude and appreciation to the management and the whole team of the «Georgian Railway». The extreme situation that developed in May-June of this year in the Lori region of Armenia confirmed the friendly and fraternal relations of the railway companies of Georgia and the Republic of Armenia», noted Aleksey Melnikov.
Among other things, the results of the interaction between the two companies in 2024, issues of organizing container transportation in international rail traffic, improving tariff policy in international traffic in 2025 and organizing passenger transportation in the summer season of next year were discussed.
During the discussion, the meeting participants confirmed their intentions to continue joint bilateral work and develop partnerships aimed at improving the operational work of railways. The parties also agreed to maintain the agreed end-to-end tariff rates in effect in 2024 for 2025. The Georgian side also informed the Armenian colleagues that a new program for the sale of Orion 2 travel tickets is in the process of implementation, the joint pilot operation of which will begin in April 2025.
